History

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…
A great idea was tossed around.

Once upon a time, an idea was scribbled on a whiteboard and then set aside. And not so recently, a bunch of us thought it might be pleasurable to have a modest convention in which we might simply relax.

The inspiration for this comes from two things, really. The first is a little convention that we enjoy once a year down in Rochester, MN called Supercon . It’s an intimate convention that involves very little programming and allows like-minded individuals to come together in an atmosphere that they are comfortable in. We talk about Science Fiction and fantasy–literary or otherwise. We enjoy each other’s company and partake in delights in which we may otherwise never experience. The second inspiration was a little hotel in Siren, WI. Recently some of our staff visited The Lodge at Crooked Lake in Siren, Wisconsin and they enjoyed themselves so thoroughly they said, “We HAVE TO have a convention here!”

In the back of our minds, we’ve always wanted to do a small intimate convention. This sort of atmosphere is frequently described as a Relax-A-Con or Decadence Convention. The convention is a time for us to practice “refined aestheticism, artifice, and the quest for new sensations” in the ambiance of Science Fiction and Fantasy. You may have noticed by looking in the contacts section, many of the staff of this convention were involved in the creation of another convention called CONvergence . In fact, OmegaMeeple was conceived during the creative process for CONvergence. At that time they were merely an Omega symbol with a couple of scribbled eyes, a bow-tie and a smiley. The more elaborate version you see on the site was inspired by the original conceptualization.

Enough about the history! In closing, we’d like to let you know we are here to bring you yet another opportunity to relax with friends in a Sci-Fi / Fantasy environment. We’re not out to copy anyone–we’re here to bring another opportunity to the fan community to relax and get to know one another. Let’s turn this scribbling of an idea into a reality! Come join us in what we hope will become a yearly tradition with you.
